PEAKfresh is modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) made specifically for fruit and vegetables as well

as cut flowers and plants. With a natural mineral embedded in our products, we are able to modify the
composition of the air surrounding the packaged item in order to extend the initial fresh state of the
product. PEAKfresh has long been used by growers, shippers and retail chains to preserve the
freshness of produce during transit and storage. Most recently, NASA began using PEAKfresh to

extend the life of produce sent to and consumed by the astronauts at the International Space Station.

   WATERMELON

Watermelon is very fragile and requires careful handling to
avoid damage. Whilst the skin of watermelons is relatively
strong, they are extremely fragile to dropping. Watermelons
are very sensitive to chill damage at temperatures below 7ºC
(42ºF). Decay in watermelon will result from extended periods
   of storage at temperatures above 20º – 24ºC (70º – 75ºF).
Exposure to excessive levels of ethylene gas will accelerate
decay. Watermelon should not be stored with fruits and
vegetables that are high producers of ethylene. Ambient
ethylene from vehicle exhausts is also a factor.

    Recommended Post Harvest Temperatures
   10º -15ºC (50º – 60ºF) 90%  humidity

   Packaging Method:
PEAKfresh bin liners can be used successfully to reduce damage caused by ethylene gas. Watermelons are usually
transported in bulk where there is a useful application for PEAKfresh sheet as a bulk wrapping material and also the
use of bubble PEAKfresh film. Chill damage at temperatures below 7ºC (42ºF) is a major cause of deterioration.

   Storage Temperatures:
   10º -15ºC (50º – 60ºF) 90% humidity
Avoid chill damage at prolonged storage temperatures below 10ºC (50ºF)

   Important Please Read:
All recommendations for the use of PEAKfresh products are given in good faith and based on proven field experience.
Packaging method storage temperatures and humidity levels, transit and destination conditions are factors likely to
affect the performance of PEAKfresh products and no liability for indirect or consequential damage can be accepted.
We recommend that PEAKfres products be trialed under local conditions before introduction to large scale
   commercial applications.
